THE MARS VOLTA Reportedly Reuniting, In The Studio Right Now

Well holy shit, this rules.

Well holy shit, this rules.

The Mars Volta released what would become their potentially final record Noctourniquet in 2012, and a few months later in 2013 promptly broke up. The duo reunited in Antemasque a little while after the breakup, and in 2016 got At The Drive-In back together for a new record. In 2018, Cedric Bixler-Zavala said The Mars Volta "will be back soon," and now it looks like that's actually happening.

According to a few deleted tweets written about by Consequence Of Sound, Bixler-Zavala said there will be a new chapter in the Mars Volta's book, adding in a response to a fan that they're "in the kitchen finding new ways to through curve ball." A tweet made earlier in May also made mention of "[being] in the studio working on music w the Puerto Rican Bernie Sanders," which Consequence Of Sound points out is a moniker for Omar Rodríguez-López.

The most interesting aspect of this is going to be if ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante rejoins the group. Frusciante played guitar in varying capacities on The Mars Volta's albums between De-Loused In The Comatorium in 2002 and Octahedron in 2009.
