Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci originally said he hoped to use an eight string guitar on the band's 2019 album Distance Over Time, but that never happened. Then in a recent interview, Petrucci revealed he was working on his own signature eight string guitar that "ready in some form, even if it's a prototype, for me to be able to use on the next Dream Theater album."
Now, according to a photo posted by Dream Theater, it seems as though Petrucci will indeed be using that low F# string for some crushing riffs on the new record. In the meantime, go grab Dream Theater's new holiday medley "The Holiday Spirit Carries On" via Bandcamp for $2.99. All proceeds will be donated to the band's currently-out-of-work road crew.
