Guns N' Roses recently released two new songs named "Hard Skool" and "Absurd," which fans were quick to point out were from the Chinese Democracy era. This of course raised some questions about who was even performing on the songs, considering guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan weren't in the band during Chinese Democracy.
Now in an interview with Audacy Check In host Remy Maxwell, Slash reveals that the songs are old but the performances are new. Slash said he and McKagan went back and re-recorded everything besides the drums for the songs, even adding some new flourishes.
"They both have a lot of history. What happened was Axl has all these songs that he recorded at some point along the way. So Duff and I went in and re-did them, basically," he said.
"Like, I write my own kind of parts to what's going on, and just sort of took the drums and re-did everything else."
Slash also touched on the potential for new Guns N' Roses music, saying there hasn't been much focused writing for it yet.
"As far as [Guns N' Roses] is concerned, we haven't even gotten to that point of really in earnest sitting down and writing. We've been doing a lot of material that's been sort of sitting around for a while. So that will be a whole focused endeavor unto itself."
