ASK ME I'M RIGHT Returns – New life changing advice from RED CHORD bassist Greg Weeks

A fan and THE RED CHORD's Greg Weeks

That stud machine of a man on the right is me, Greg Weeks, and I’m the bassist of the Red Chord. Want to ask me about my band, your band, or this new president of ours. Don’t hesitate to popup your mail program of choice and send me a question to [email protected] and I’ll be sure to respond with some life-changing advice.

deer greg:

my awesome question is two-fold:
one. what's the deal with you using a pick all the time?
seriously.
two. how old is gunface? it looks like he and some floozy conceived the rest of the band and formed a musical outfit with them.

-a dylan

Dear a dylan,
This is an advice column. I use a pick because I'm not a very good bass player. Gunface is as old as time itself and knows the secrets of the elder trees whose roots grow thick and deep into the earth. His mighty beard and hard eyes have seen the passing of ages. He has existed before you and will be alive long after we are all dust. Gunface is, forever,
-Greg

P.S. Gunface is 27

Yo, Greg! First off, I'd like to say: F**ing amazing show in Arizona! Now, on to my question. What do you think you'd be today if you hadn't picked up that bass and joined The Red Chord?

Rock on,
Gabe

Gabe,

Better off.

-Greg

I'm trying to start a band with a few of my friends. The problem is they listen to shitty music, write shitty music, and have horrible ideas. (Shitty Music= Disturbed, Slipknot, DragonForce, Kill Hannah, AvengeSevenfold etc.) I like Converge, Pig Destroyer, Architect, Red Chord, Coalesce, Despised Icon, and BTBAM etc. I even try to get them into what I listen but they are so closed-minded they go on to say,"I can't understand they're lyrics. I assured them that the lyrics didnt come out of their high school diaries, or were influenced by World of Warcraft. They are my friends and I would feel like a total dick if I started a band elsewhere. But at the same time I like good music. Should I be in a band with my friends who dont listen to the same music as I do and don't contribute that well and try to convince them to play what I write, or be a dick (sorta) and find some other people to start a band with.

P.S. Do you like Nitro?

M.Y. of Bradenton ,FL

Dear M.Y.
The gentlemen in my band often times do not listen to the same type of music. In fact, we all have different tastes. Being in a band with those who listen to other forms of music might open up your mind to different ideas. I bet the bands that you listed as being shitty have some great qualities in their music. On the other hand you should sit your crew down and play them "Colors". If you straight up hate all the riffs coming from your band mates then you should quit. It's ll about learning son,
-Greg
P.S. Who's Kill Hannah?

hey greg
im 14 and i live in the florida keys Ive been playing guitar for about 2 years and im doing pretty well i've learned a lot fast
however i cant seem to find any extreme metal fans here i also was thinking about playing bass there are to many guitarists
but musically i feel a little restrained playing bass i feel like im the only kid that likes melodic death metal and others forms of metal i just moved to florida in maryland i was one of the only white kids at school so i couldnt find any metalheads
im trying to decide between bass and guitar

p.s.
TBDM is my favorite band so which member is the biggest asshole be honest
much love
Luke S

Luke S,
If you love playing music then fill whatever gap you can find down there. Bass or guitar. If it's bass then you can at least write guitar parts and eventually take over. BDM are all equally the greatest assholes ever and I love them.

-Greg

Dear Greg,

You probably don't remember me but i'm that one kid from that one show at that one place, i was the one in the front headbanging. Anyway, um i have a problem. Every time my mother gives me a sponge bath i get tingly feelings in my buttcrack and my weiner falls off. Do have any advice on how to stop this?

I guess I'd advise you to be sponge bathed by your father instead.

Hey there,

I need help. My band consists completely of total pussies and I'm sick of their girly whiny shit. I can't seem to find another band that's good enough tho. I want people who know what they're doing and who play their music with passion. Not too many of those out there it seems. What should I do now? As a singer it's hard to start a solo career…

Thanks, drink hard.
Phil from Germany

Phil,
This is funny because usually singers are the cry babies. If you're bummed on your guys then leave. If you don't already know how to play an instrument then learn. Write some jams and then get a group together and let them know how you want it done. That way you'll be in control and the tunes will be filled with your passion. Go for it!
You're welcome, soft drink.
Greg, I'm in Germany.
