Whitechapel's crushing debut album The Somatic Defilement is set to be re-released on April 18th, complete with a new mixing and mastering job courtesy of Mark Lewis (DevilDriver, The Black Dahlia Murder) and new-ish artwork that looks less like it was run through a thousand Instagram filters. It'll be great to hear these songs in clearer light, especially the recent live favorite "Prostatic Fluid Asphyxiation."
I'm really glad this album is getting a lift, honestly. It's a solid slab of all-around slammy deathcore that never quite reached the heights it deserved because it suffered from a fairly iffy mix, but not for much longer! Head on over to Metal Blade's site to check out the finger-snapping tune "Vicer Exciser" if you're not convinced of just how sick this re-issue is going to be yet.Oh, and then there's this-
Well that rules, especially considering the insane uptrend they've been on in terms of writing sick material. Think about the massive jump the band made between A New Era of Corruption and the self-titled, and how that heavy aggressiveness was still retained, but refined and incorporated into a different sound that was still instantly identifiable as Whitechapel. That's talent, and I really won't be shocked when the next album is an instant classic.
