ADAM JONES Says TOOL Might "Dig A Couple Oldies Out" For Upcoming Tour

Plus some new visuals.

Tool-15

Tool is closing out their 2023 with a massive North American tour including stops at the Power Trip, Aftershock, and Louder Than Life festivals. While it's pretty unlikely you'll hear any new Tool songs debuted at the shows, guitarist Adam Jones tells Pollstar that you might hear some old stuff you haven't heard in a while.

"We've added to the show," said Jones. "We haven't played all the markets and definitely want people to see what we're doing. We might dig a couple oldies out and angle our set list a little bit, and the rhythm of it. And we got some new visuals, which are very cool."

On the contrary, you shouldn't expect an all-old school set either. According to vocalist Maynard James Keenan in a recent interview, he's simply getting too old to do a set of all old Tool tracks.

"Old cars… Ya know, just like an old Barracuda man, just tearing up the streets. You try to do that with an old Barracuda now and it's gonna break. Some thing is… Ya know, you just can't do that. So I think with age you find ways to sing the thing where it's not creating damage. You can actually recreate it without having to pick a scab, emotionally and literally, like hurting yourself.

"So I think my writing has changed over the years, and I can do some of those songs. I can't do a whole set of those songs. I can pepper them in, so I can still do some of those things, but you can't… If you're actually sitting down and thinking about it, you can't expect some of those dudes, [from] back in the day, to do the thing they did… 30 years ago, 40 years ago. You can't expect that out of that body. Your body doesn't do those things forever."
