Type O Negative played their final show on October 31, 2007 at Harpo's in Detroit, MI. The band was working on a new record when on April 10, 2010, frontman and bassist Peter Steele died in his sleep. Type O Negative confirmed they were done after Steele's death and has stuck to it – the band never reunited, never did a tribute show, nothing.
Now in a new interview with the Talk Toomey podcast, Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey said he'd be down to finally do a tribute show with some different vocalists. "I think so. I would do something like that, absolutely," said Hickey.
"Because at this point, the band seemed to transcend into a whole new generation and stuff. And I think it would be really cool to get a couple of key singers, real guys, or maybe one guy or whatever, to come and do it as a tribute. Absolutely. Maybe four or five shows, something like that. If we can get Josh [Silver, former Type O Negative keyboardist] to do it, yeah, [I'd be up for it]."
Hickey elaborated that Silver has been done with music for quite some time, and that he'd likely be the sticking point. "Josh is just, like, he's done with music. He feels like he's moved on, but I don't know. We'll see. You get nostalgic after a time, you know what I mean? So you never know. You can never say never."
And I mean really, why not? It's like Type O Negative would be coming back as Type O Negative 2.0. It'd be a cool tribute that I'm sure loads of people would love to see. I'm sure Nate Garrett would answer the call in a heartbeat.
Hickey previously weighed in on a hypothetical Type O Negative tribute show back in 2023, saying during an interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio: "People have approached us to try and reform the band with a singer and go on the road. 'Cause everybody wants a money grab. We personally don't think Peter is replaceable by anybody, and it just wouldn't work.
"A tribute I'd love to do. I'm sure Johnny [Kelly, drums] would love to do it. I know Josh [Silver, keyboards] wouldn't do it, because Josh is picking up body parts in East New York [during his work as a paramedic]. He's not gonna stop that to start rehearsing. But yeah, we would do it with guest musicians and stuff. If somebody had the idea and got it together and got the logistics together, sure — I would be into it."
