The Sword broke up in 2022 and reunited for then-one-off show at the Levitation Festival on November 3, 2024. The Sword continued down the path of reuniting with a cover of "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull for Magnetic Eye's Aqualung Redux album, and then a New Year's Eve show in Austin, Texas.

Now The Sword has announced they're permanently reuniting starting with two shows for this April dubbed "The Return." Both shows will be opened by Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol and Pink Fuzz. Tickets are available here.

4/11 San Antonio, TX Paper Tiger

On the band's reunion, The Sword vocalist and guitarist John D. Cronise told Revolver there are more dates to come: "Well, right now we have a couple Texas shows. We've just played Baton Rouge and Houston and Austin, and we're going to do Dallas and San Antonio [in April]. And then we got lots of more stuff coming up in the summertime."

Guitarist Kyle Shutt added: "I can't tell you what it means to see everyone's positive reception. It feels so good to see people out there almost more enthusiastic about the band than ever – it's something we'll never take for granted."

And of course with the reunion comes the question of if The Sword will do a follow-up to their 2018 record Used Future. The short answer is probably, the long answer is they're working on it slowly.

"We have a couple demos laying around, but we have yet to really get together and concentrate on it," said Cronise. "I've been in such a transitional state with moving. I was sort of semi-displaced by Hurricane Helene. I lived in Black Mountain, [North Carolina], and I couldn't really go back to my house after that. I was actually not in town when the hurricane happened [in September 2024], luckily. But I had to move out right after that. So I've been in a holding pattern here for the last couple months, and I'm finally moving to Austin in the next couple days. Then we'll be able to get into the nitty gritty of working on new material."
