Back in 2009, Anthrax split with their vocalist Dan Nelson and ultimately ended up reuniting with their former vocalist Joey Belladonna in 2010. That being said, a whole year without a vocalist certainly left time for the band to root around for a new frontman. Who knew within that year Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor got close enough to joining the band that his label actually had to tell him no?
According to Metal Hammer, Taylor was jamming acoustically with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Frank Bello for fun before seriously being asked to join the group at dinner afterward.
“They were like, ‘We don’t know what to do.’ Someone – I don’t remember who – jokingly said, ‘Why don’t you sing for us?’ We all laughed. Then we got real quiet and we were like, ‘Well, why don’t I?’ I was ready to fly to Chicago to start writing with them.”
Taylor would have performed on Anthrax's 2011 record Worship Music and says he's still extremely pleased with the record and Belladonna's performance. On the plus side of the situation, we got Stone Sour's House of Gold and Bones double record! On the downside, who knows how much heavier the already incredibly heavy Worship Music would have been with Taylor… damn.
