Coheed and Cambria have alwaystreaded on the border of prog rock and prog metal. I'm positive there is a lot of crossover with metal fans, right? The dudes are known for releasing complex Rush-inspired concept albums, but their next album The Color Before the Sun will be the band's first non-conceptual work. As my buddy Aubrey pointed out, "doing an album that isn’t a concept album kind of IS a concept in and of itself," which makes sense if you think about it.
The band have released this statement on the new track:
The Color Before The Sun marks the first time Claudio Sanchez is exposing his raw feelings, narrated from his own perspective. “I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record,” he explained of the album’s departure from The Amory Wars. “I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”
So with that said, is the music good? I'm digging it, seems like a fun summer jam.
