If you asked pretty much anyone to name a song by Powerman 5000, they're more than likely going to say "When Worlds Collide." I can't speak for the rest of the band's work, but that song was a pretty big hit way back when… big enough for say, it to be stolen for use in Final Fantasy XIV?
Frontman Spider One says the whole thing is a little too similar to be conincidence, while producer of the game Naoki Yoshida says industrial was popular at the time and that composer Masayoshi Soken was "unaware of [Powerman 5000's] song at the time."
I'll let you make up your own mind. Check out Powerman 5000's "When World's Collide," and then check out Final Fantasy XIV's "Sephirot Theme (Phase 2)."

Damn… I think I might actually have to side with Spider One on this one. Oh, and for the record, "When Worlds Collide" came out in 1999 and Final Fantasy XIV came out in 2010.
