After five years of lineup troubles and silence, Obscura returned in 2016 with arguably its best album to date. Akróasis was released in February, the band did some shows in support of the album, and that was that. Now Obscura is teasing either a new song or album called "The End," or they're calling it quits completely. The post says all will be revealed come October 1 at 8PM, so until then we'll just have to guess.
Our guess is that The End is the name of another album, considering all albums since Cosmogenesis have been a cycle of albums, so says guitarist and vocalist Steffen Kummerer in a 2011 interview. Keep in mind this is before Akróasis.
Cosmogenesis started with the beginning of our existence, the big bang theory if you want to say so, and deals with different layers and synonyms on a philosophical basis. The second, Omnivium, takes part of the evolution in many different layers such as the basic ape to human thought, religious topics, how the human individuals evolve within their existence and uses as its basic theme the novel On Nature’s Connection to the Spirit World by Friedrich Schelling.
Seriously, Obscura better not call it quits, though if it does, Akróasis is one hell of an album to go out on.
