AP Confuses LIMP BIZKIT's Fred Durst for Millionaire Murderer Robert Durst; Nation Giggles

Did Robert Durst do it all for the nookie?!

Did Robert Durst do it all for the nookie?!

You may have heard of the new HBO docu-series The Jinx, which wrapped up this weekend. It profiled millionaire Robert Durst and various murders of people around him which he initially claimed no connection to but throughout the series, he was proven to be lying and was arrested on Sunday ahead of the finale.

Jim Romensko pointed out that the Assosiated Press initially reported that it was Fred Durst, the Limp Bizkit frontman, not Robert, who was arrested:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state – on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.

The error was quickly corrected with a correction at the bottom:

In the second item of the California 10th NewsMinute sent March 16 to users of the state broadcast wire, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Robert Durst is a member of a band. He is a real estate heir; Fred Durst is the former frontman of Limp Bizkit.

Oh, Associated Press. Look, we all make mistakes but this seems rather big, doesn't it? AP spokesman Paul Colford says the Limp Bizkit reference was only “a brief that appeared solely on the California broadcast wire last night.” Not anymore!
