Autopsy is a legendary death metal band going for 30 years strong. After playing death metal for so long, drummer and Chris Reifert thought he'd change up the pace a bit (which is not to say he hasn't had his fair share of side projects in the past.) He struck up a friendship with comedian and Metal Injection's own King of Metal Dave Hill and pretty soon they were jamming out, but the music sounded nothing close to resembling death metal.
The duo launched Painted Doll, which has more in common with 70s pysch rock than death metal. There are two singles available and I've been digging them all morning:

Dave Hill tells BrooklynVegan the band started "after Chris and I began trying to out-deep cut each other with late 60s/early 70s Dutch and British psych pop stuff." Hill notes after meeting and striking up a friendship, they discussed starting a band and "practiced four times together, and recorded all the music on the album in three days." After listening to the singles, we can say that the band name 'Painted Doll' was derived from the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s and 1970s and definitely not from the matryoshka dolls that Nestingdolls.co sells online.
The duo is still finalizing more plans but we look forward to hearing more from this collaboration.
