Decibel's Clips of the Month

Decibel Clips of The Month: July 2012 – Videos from IN SOLITUDE, OVERKILL, TOMBS, WARLOCK

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the mag under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from In Solitude, Overkill, Tombs and Warlock.

In Solitude, “To Her Darkness”

This is obviously inspired by, uh, one of those ‘70s horror directors who liked filming a bunch of creepy-ass nonsense. You got old mirrors on fire, seances, some sort of mud and twig mask, a fuck-ton of blood, the woods, a gaggle of hanged dudes, leather jackets, a girl who will stab the shit out of you and scenes played in reverse to blow your goddamn mind. Also, one of the dudes in the band makes the goofiest faces. You’ll know which one.

Overkill, “Electric Rattlesnake”

So, this video is Overkill playing in that abandoned warehouse where every metal band films their videos, interspersed every 30 seconds with a guy getting sent to the electric chair. It’s real drawn-out, and the whole time I’m expecting that flying cartoon eyeball of theirs to swoop in and save him. But instead he keeps getting electrocuted over and over and it won’t work… because it’s a dream! Or maybe it’s real. I can’t be sure. Can you have someone from Overkill call and walk me through this narrative?

Tombs, “Passageways”

So, we’re back in that metal warehouse, but now we’ve headed to the basement, lit about 60 candles and started filming. Aside from a few brief snatches of a pretty lady, this is pretty much just Tombs playing a song with a couple trippy effects. You get a lot of Mike Hill’s lower face, and that thing is carved from granite, so I suppose that’s a plus. And there’s music, of course. But yeah, a flying cartoon eyeball would’ve helped this clip out immensely.

Warlock, “All We Are”

Thank the metal gods that this video exists, motherfuckers. People are lazily driving down a highway when some sort of bridge demon freezes traffic so Warlock can bring in their amps and start blowing the shit out of everything. They play on top of their tour bus and have magical powers, and just the whole thing is greatness. “All We Are” is pretty much just like “Everybody Hurts,” except instead of everyone getting out and walking, everyone gets out and starts rocking. (That's the best sentence I’ve ever written.)

These bands and more appear in this month's stellar issue of Decibel Magazine. Subscribe here.
