Back in March, drummer Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, The Winery Dogs, etc.) revealed he had a new prog supergroup. The Internet surmised that the project included ex-Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian and ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, and the Internet was right! Though missing some information.
The new group, dubbed Sons Of Apollo, indeed consists of Portnoy, Sherinian, and Thal, but also includes bassist Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force).
You can check out a trailer for the group's debut album Psychotic Symphony, which sounds pretty great, below! Seriously, 2017 has been lacking in legitimately great progressive rock, and Sons of Apollo appear to be filling that void quite well.
Psychotic Symphony is due out October 20.
