So far it's been a good week for premiers here at Metal Injection. We've already brought you a full album stream of HUSH.'s upcoming debut album Unexist as well as an exclusive song premiere from Chelsea Grin. Now we're proud to host the world premiere of Gloom's debut EP.
Gloom are a brand new band from Washington D.C. who play blackened death metal. Maybe that doesn't sound particularly exciting, but there's much more going on under this band's hood than an overused genre classification would lead you to believe. Aside from the obvious black and death metal influences, there's also an abundance of doomy, swaggering groove to be found on tracks like "Unrequited" and "Erotema". If you listen close enough, you can even occasionally hear a smidge of Phil Anselmo in Bill Calomiris's vocal delivery. Although there's a lot going on in each song, Gloom have elected to keep the running times of every track relatively short. There's not a single song that exceeds four minutes, and the result is an EP that's brief but also incredibly focused and intense for a freshman offering.
Below you can stream Gloom's self-titled EP in its entirety. The Gloom EP doesn't get released until Tuesday June 24th, so you'll have plenty of time to absorb this schizophrenic mass of riffs before running out and buying it next week.
