Gorguts isn't a band that shies away from being downright strange. Gorguts is also not a band that is mediocre at being downright strange, so that helps quite a bit too. A good case for Gorguts' innate ability to pull off music that wouldn't be considered "conventional" by any means is the band's brand new EP Pleaides' Dust, a 33-minute long EP that is comprised of one song.
Luc Lemay, mastermind behind Gorguts, explained in a previous interview what the release is about.
"The lyrics tell the story of the 'House of Wisdom', which is referring to a library that was based in Baghdad sometime between the 8th and the 13th century. There much of the intellectual activity of the Middle Age took place while Europe was stuck in the Dark ages after the fall of Rome. Many scientific discoveries were made at the time such as algebra, optics, astronomy, and many moreā¦ Without the translation movement that brought this library to life, we would have never had the Renaissance that we know. It is a story about curiosity, beautiful minds and sadly, about how man destroys great discoveries and achievements."
Also, I think it's kind of funny that Season of Mist (the label behind the May 13 release) made this one-song release as its own playlist on YouTube.
