Strawberry Girls initially caught my ear a few years back when they were selected as the opening slot for a Chon and Polyphia tour. While similar to the aforementioned acts in regards to their proggy, instrumental jams, Strawberry Girls certainly hold their own unique identity. Quirky rhythms, stylistic diversity, and an overall moody melodic drive allows this trio to shine.
On their freshly released LP, Tasmanian Glow, this sentiment is proven true as each song drags a certain emotion along for the ride. Opener "Bay of Fires" and the title track are equally high energy and uplifting. On the other hand, "Moonwalker' takes a more pensive, yet funky direction. With a whopping thirteen tracks, this album embodies a sense of musical virtuosity, experimentation, and pure amusement. While not every track oozes of happy tones, the overall atmosphere created on this record is a feeling of fun. Heck, the band even caves in and throws on a vocalist for the closing piece "Party Nights."
If you're searching for more guitar-driven, instrumental groups, Strawberry Girls should most definitely be high on your list and this new album is great place to start. We're excited to be streaming the entire LP here at Metal Injection. For an exciting journey that fuses the bombastic nature of The Fall of Troy with the emotional compositions by Plini, dive into Tasmanian Glow by Strawberry Girls, released via Tragic Hero Records below.
