June is Pride Month, and this year is an extra special celebration, because it has been 50 years since the Stonewall Inn Riots that kickstarted the whole gay liberation movement in the United States. World Pride is a big event every June and it will be capped off this weekend with Pride parades all over the country.
One person who came out not too long ago is black metal legend Gaahl. He made the revelation subtly a few years ago and then spoke in-depth with Metal Injection a few months ago on the topic. Now, Gaahl is letting his Pride flag fly, teaming up with Apple Music to curate a "Pride Playlist." Here's what Gaahl says of his picks:
“Gaahl is a Norwegian artist and vocalist-frontman for the Norwegian black metal troupes Gorgoroth and Gaahls Wyrd. He’s also one of the few out gay musicians in black metal. Gaahl is a man of few words, so when we got his custom-made playlist for Pride, it didn’t surprise us that he included only one brief line of description to accompany his tracklist, which leans heavily on hard rock but also makes detours into new wave, electro-pop, and even disco. Says Gaahl, simply, ‘Pride means freedom.’”
The playlist is very varied including tracks from Judas Priest, Scorpions, Johnny Cash, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Eurythmics, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Nancy Sinatra and more. Listen below or at this link.
