BAPTISTS Are "Calling" You Out To Jam Their Killer New Track

They want you to wet your pants and bang your head

They want you to wet your pants and bang your head

I’ve done a pretty horrible job at keeping my love for Vancouver’s Baptists a secret since their debut release. So it should come as no surprise that I'm stoked to present a new song from their crushing Kurt Ballou produced follow up, Bloodmines.

The track, “Calling,” is a stand out song that really features everything you love about Baptists, at a slower tempo than usual. It’s one of the many ways you’ll find them exploring new territory on Bloodmines, while maintaining their brand of pure intensity paired with incredible chops.

I asked Danny Marshall (Guitars) how the song came together, to which he replied:

I had wanted to try a mid-paced song that was really bass driven for quite a while. Bands like Shellac, Jesus Lizard, Young Widows, too – I really like how the rhythm section plugs along at a really menacing pace in a lot of their songs, and wanted to try something a bit more in that vein. It was a little outside of our comfort zone at first, and I wasn't sure if it was even going to suit our band. In my mind the song also really hinged on a long drum fill kind of thing, at kind of an awkward pace and feel. It took some work to come up with exactly what Nick wanted to do, but I think it worked out really well. Personally, this is my favorite song on the album.

Bloodmines is available October 13th via Southern Lord Records.

"It's refreshing to hear a band operate within a musical sphere that's decidedly off the deep end with this much clarity of purpose."
