My first impression upon hearing Barren Womb's new song "Mystery Meat" is that the band is somehow the raucous offspring of Refused and KEN Mode. or a less a garage-y version of Kvelertak without all the retro-harmonies and dual guitar leads. My next thought once the song was over was that I needed to listen to it again because this Nordic duo can write a track that's equally catchy and angry. One minute "Mystery Meat" is tossing about blasts and noisy, jangly chords, and the next they've settled into a groove and a catchy chorus. It's a trip, but it's also extremely well done and worth it.
Singer/drummer Timo Silvola and singer/guitarist Tony Gonzalez recorded their new album Old Money/New Lows live in the studio, which was then mixed by Håkon Gebhardt (Motorpsycho, Bertine Zetlitz, Ida Jenshus) and mastered by Keijo Niinimaa (Rotten Sound, Morbid Evils). Check out our premiere of "Mystery Meat" below and pre-order the album here. You can also catch the duo on tour throughout Europe in February, March, and April at one of the many dates below "Mystery Meat."
