Australian tech-death wizards Mephistopheles have been alive and kicking since 2004, and while their early EP and first album, Ascension Aborted, were rightly revered in certain circles, it wasn't until 2013 when the band really broke out status and recognition wise with the release of Sounds Of The End.
Too many bands never get their due praise, so it really made me happy that their perseverance paid off and has led them to their current highly praised status. Now just a few years down the line, the band is on the cusp of releasing a worthy follow-up to Sounds Of The End called In Reverence of Forever, which will drop on July 8th through Willowtip Records.
On their upcoming EP, Mephistopheles continue to build upon their black metal and prog-infused take on tech-death that Sounds Of The End delivered so well. In order to keep the passionate fans at bay, we've got an early launch of one of the new songs for you below called "The Orator". It's a dense song that feels like a labyrinth, endless in its twists and turns, yet striking gold from start to finish. Like their label's press release for the EP denotes, it's definitely fair to call "The Orator" both challenging and memorable as far as tech-death goes. So jam below and try to disagree, I fucking dare you!
