Black metal has often dealt with matters of the occult. It seems like now there are way more bands than there should be for such a mysterious subject. Yet, for whatever reason, occult bands flood black metal. Do not let this inundation be discouraging, however. There are thankfully a handful of bands that exist across the globe who do it wonderfully. The Connecticut/New York-based force, One Master, is one such example. For 15 years, they have been crafting increasingly twisted and dark rage that has surely placed them in the most elite ranks of United States black metal.
July 14 will see the release of the band's fourth full-length album, Lycanthropic Burrowing. It follows their critically acclaimed 2015 effort, Reclusive Blasphemy. For One Master, it also a recurrence of Finnish and Scandinavian roots extending deep into their sound. The violently contrast the current atmospheric landscape of most United States black metal. "Death Resurrection", the fourth song from the band's new album, is musically and lyrically a powerful crescendo. Piercing tremolo rings across the length of the track, soaring high above a punishing barrage of drums and low-end that stretches for over seven minutes. The fervent intensity of "Death Resurrection" is an ideal example of what has made One Master so ruthless over the last 15 years.
The band issued a statement on the song, saying: "On an album about the drive to expose one's animalistic instincts; 'Death Resurrection' is the moment when atavistic impulses take control and the transformation from man into werewolf is realized."
