Hey there tech-fiends! I've been jamming the latest Wormed a lot lately, as well as the last Artificial Brain record, Labyrinth Constellation. So since I'm already in a cosmic sci-fi themed tech-death mood, I figured this would be a fun exercise in highlighting more underground bands that bring this kind of flavor to their music. I'm thinking of possibly doing a following week's edition in the same vein, but I'm not sure yet. For now, do as Origin says and "hail space".
Dystrophic- Cancer Constellation
Active since 2010, California natives Dystrophic have released two EP's to date, and today we'll focus on their second one, 2013's Cancer Constellation. Dystrophic are into some pretty odd shit, its not just spaced themed lyrically, these guys put in eerie sci-fi h0rror interludes and soundscapes inside their music in a way similar to Wormed. Which really gives Cancer Constellation a disturbing and unique atmosphere that I feel really adds a lot to their music. Though I think overall they have more in common with Origin than Wormed overall. And with a stronger grind enhanced angle to it as well. If you dig this, their prior self-titled EP from 2010 is pretty sick as well.
As one of the best bands formed from the wave that Deeds Of Flesh and Origin ushered into tech-death, Nebulous have always seemed to me to be one of the most under-appreciated bands of their ilk around. They do a fucking amazing job at uniting and intertwining the two aforementioned band's styles together in a myriad of interesting ways. The closest contemporary peer that comes to mind in the same sense for me is Inanimate Existence. Although Nebulous change it up by also displaying a strong proggy later period Death influence throughout The Quantum Transcendence Of Death. Which is also enhanced by occasional modern dissonant Gorguts-y type parts. This record has really gone under the radar to this day, though I know a number of hardcore tech-death heads will already be aware of it. As to whether a follow up will ever happen, the band most recently said it's possible, but that nothing is in the works. If nothing else, The Quantum Transcendence Of Death has transcended the trappings of boring tech-death, and still holds up as well as the day it was released 3 years ago!
