Pantera's The Great Southern Trendkill is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, which naturally means that a reissue is in order. The reissue will consist of a remixed version of the album, with a second disc packed with unheard demos, instrumentals, and live recordings.
The early version of "Drag The Waters" you'll hear below sounds great. It's a much bigger mix than the final cut, and I dig the weird talk box "DRAG THE WATERS" thing floating around in the beginning. Here's what Phil Anselmo had to say about the track via Rolling Stone.
"I wrote the lyrics about a buddy of mine who was getting married. The young lady he was gonna marry sucked. She was some asshole judge's daughter, and she came from this high-and-mighty household. I believe I had a heart-to-heart with him about her and said, 'You might wanna drag the waters with that one, there's bodies – she's ruined – in there.' Hence, upon remembrance, I wrote the lyrics."
The band also says the track wears its Led Zeppelin influence on its sleeve, which honestly I never really noticed before.
