PIG DESTROYER – The Cavalry
First new track since their 2018 'Head Cage' opus finds the PD clicking back from their ever-so-slightly slowed swagger from last time into pure grindcore flash once again. Also possibly the best of the batch of friends-in-quarantine-misbehaving music videos that have surfaced during this whole thing (someone get that knife away from that little kid though! Sheesh!)
BEAR MACE – Hibernation/Destroyed By Bears
Led by ex-Lord Devourer singer Chris Scearce and featuring other members of outfits like Pulchra Morte, November Doom and Armored Assault, Bear Mace lumber out of Chicago but share some spiritual kinship with the '90's Tampa class (Massacre/Death). Colorful destruction ensues, the LP is called 'Charred Field of Slaughter.'
BASMU – The Encircling
Murk to marvel at. Distilled dismality and a blazing declaration that black metal does not need to involve technical prowess, flash, or even a mic that doesn't hang from a rafter recording the proceedings. Alberta is a cold hearted place.
UNDEATH – Lesions of a Different Kind
Considerable buzz from old-school death metal fans and younguns alike, Black Dahlia's Trevor Strnad joins in on this, the title track of Undeath's new LP. And what a bucket of bile these guys are. Blood dripping riffage, total chaos, confusion and mad scrambling behind the drumkit. A dazzler.
PULCHRA MORTE – Knife Of the Will
Pulchra Morte offer some more of their heavy alchemy and unique brand of creeping doom/death. Welcoming new members Adam Clemans (Skeletonwitch, Wolvhammer), John Porada (Wolvhammer, Abigail Williams) as well as existing members Jarrett Pritchard (Eulogy, Brutality), Clayton Gore (Eulogy, Harkonin), and Jeffrey Breden (Leagues Below), PM blend their deep-dirt-dig claustrophobia with generous helpings of space and atmosphere, a pretty unique combo.
