Castrator – "Dawa of Yousafzai"
Defiled In Oblivion is a strong return after 7 years from these amazing NYC purveyors of old school death. An all-woman unit, their lyrical message is fierce, this track in particular in support of the nearly-assasinated-at-age-15 Pakistani Malala Yousafzai. Her critique of Taliban-imposed limitations in female education made her targeted, and in the event's wake has become an impassioned spokesperson for women and children globally. We're excited to welcome Castrator to the DJ booth as well Wednesday, July 20th at 10am PT/1pm ET, where Carolina Perez takes over our netwaves.
Plague Years – "Suffer"
Surprise! Detroit's Plague Years have sprung into action again with a new EP out of nowhere that landed July 7th All Will Suffer. This leadoff track finds them in continued fine form blasting a mutant hybrid of death and thrash metal, adding in their hometown's hardcore roots for good measure. Fans of Power Trip and Obituary should dig, and we welcome them back for their second Gimme DJ takeover on August 31st, so mark those calendars!
Wormrot – "Behind Closed Doors"
Hiss is the latest from Wormrot out this past week on Earache, and it's a brain-clawing slab of death, grind, powerviolence and straight-up HC to motivate the masses. Hailing from Singapore, their motives include bringing the already-tight international grind community tighter during pandemic times, and their vitriol to suck in all kinds of genre amalgamations reflect an outward stare into society as a global whole. Good stuff and by the looks of this video clip are ragers live to boot.
God Is An Astronaut – "Route 666 (Live)"
While this song dates back to their inception around 1999, this new version heads up the release of a new live-in-studio album The Beginning of the End (not to be confused with their 2002 The End of the Beginning). GIAA mark their sound with definite darkwave leanings, this instrumental slowly unfolding into some heavy, levitating crescendos. We welcome the band and their brand of dayglo doom for a Gimme special on August 10th.
Telekinetic Yeti – "Primordial"
Opening with what seems like pterodactyls winging their way through a valley of pot smoke, this Iowa duo weaves their way through moats of sludge, laden with tripped out psychedelic effects. Anchored down with a titanium-heavy bottom, TY are dynamic beyond their band numbers, easily manhandling the doom at their disposal into epic, far reaching cosmos. The LP Primordial is out on Tee Pee and they work their way through a tour with White Hills in able support starting July 19th in Charlotte.
