Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are streaming Mind Control, which we've so graciously reviewed for you reading pleasure right here. Spoiler- it's great.
Here it is! Behold in all it's fuzzy glory! Mind Control was a real surprise to me, since I'd really only seen the band's name mentioned here and there on the Internet but never really decided to delve into their work. Now I feel stupid because I was missing out on some really good stuff! I love the lo-fi sound of the record, that's it's all claustrophobic but so damn interesting at the same time. Oh, and it's kind of a concept album:
That was the starting point for the concept, which obviously was to do with mind control, and the story narrative is some guy who starts a super-cult out in the desert, and they steal motorcycles, and he’s got all these girls around, and they do drugs — it’s kind of Charles Manson meets Jim Jones — and obviously, there has to be a big murder spree at the end. So it’s more the American exploitation films of the early ’70s. I find writing lyrics hard, so to make things easier for myself, I come up with these stories.
So basically they watch b-movies and then write albums based on their own ideas for crappy movies. Sweet deal! They aso said that drugs do not influence their sound at all, which is pretty neat.
