Earlier this evening, Anthrax held a release party for their new album, Worship Music. A few hours before the official show was to begin, there was a special "Metal Masters" clinic. During the clinic, Frankie Bello, Charlie Benante, David Ellefson and Mike Portnoy all played some music, gave some advice and then started jamming out. Kerry King comes on stage, and they start playing "Am I Evil." Then, the creme de la creme…Phil Anselmo comes out for TWO Pantera songs, and thank FUCKING Buddah that they didn't play "Walk." They picked "A New Level" and "Fucking Hostile," two great songs to cover, and it was pretty cool to witness. I have embedded the livestream encore above AT THE EXACT TIME that Anselmo climbs on stage. If you'd like to watch the whole clinic, you can scrub the time bar.
The absolute best part of the whole thing, was when in between the two songs, Phil was getting ready to start the song and he was calling out to the two drummers, Charlie Benante and Mike Portnoy, and he clearly forgot Mike's name, instead choosing to refer to him as (I believe he said) "Dream Theater crazy boxing motherfucker on drums there." Classic Phil! What's additionally crazy is that Down is currently on tour, and this show just happened to fall on a two day break. Anselmo was in Arizona yesterday, and before you get your hopes up, he'll be in Oklahoma the day of the Big 4 show.
