The Soundtrack For The Crow Reboot Better Not Suck

Please?

Crow 2024

The Crow reboot is due out June 7 and whoever is in charge of the soundtrack better not screw it up, because the original soundtracks were fantastic. The original 1994 soundtrack for The Crow featured (among others):

  • Nine Inch Nails covering Joy Division's "Dead Souls"
  • Pantera covering Poison Idea's "The Badge"
  • Rollins Band covering Suicide's "Ghost Rider"
  • Rage Against The Machine re-recording their 1991 track "Darkness Of Greed"
  • My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult re-recording "Nervous Xians"
  • Helmet contributing their 1994 track "Milquetoast"
  • Stone Temple Pilots debuting their song "Big Empty"

Then there's the sequel's soundtrack from The Crow: City Of Angels in 1996, which was also incredible. That one featured in part:

  • Hole covering Fleetwood Mac's "Gold Dust Woman"
  • White Zombie covering KC And The Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man"
  • Filter contributing "Jurassitol"
  • Korn contributing "Sean Olson"
  • Deftones contributing "Teething"'

The Crow: Salvation in 2000 was no slouch either as it featured Danzig, Filter, Rob Zombie, Pitchshifter, Static-X, Monster Magnet, and you get the idea. The Crow was pushing great metal through its soundtracks, if not touching on the underground in a significant way – Korn and Deftones in 1996 was a gamble.

Now we've got The Crow reboot starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs, and Danny Huston. The first trailer is streaming below and it's got the 2019 Post Malone track "Take What You Want" featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott. Which isn't the worst, but given the massive surge of nü-metal reunions and new-nü bands, it's surprising the trailer didn't dip into that more. Doubly so given the plethora of excellent industrial bands out there (Ministry is on the way out – why not get a farewell track?).

I guess we'll see what happens. But man, here's hoping The Crow in 2024 has a genuinely good, heavy soundtrack that includes some neat covers and maybe even breaks a new band. Or at the very least does Brandon Lee's memory a service.
