Phil Anselmo Thinks A PANTERA Reunion "Would Be A Great Idea If Everyone Else Felt It Was A Great Idea"

We know Rex Brown totally isn't into it.

We know Rex Brown totally isn't into it.

Pantera called it quits in 2003 and any chance of a reunion was tragically crushed upon guitarist Dimebag Darrell's murder on stage in Columbus, Ohio on December 8, 2004. Over the years the idea of a Dimebag-less reunion has come up, potentially with Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde on guitar, but the topic has never seemed to gain much traction. In 2015, Rockstar Mayhem Festival tried to get a reunion going, and the band said no.

Now in an interview with Metal Wani, vocalist Phil Anselmo says he'd do a reunion if everyone else in the band wants to. Drummer and Dimebag's brother Vinnie Paul hasn't brought it up in a while, but his last answer was no, and bassist Rex Brown wasn't about it as recently as late 2017.

"I think it would be a great idea if everyone else felt it was a great idea. And I would just say that if everybody came calling, then count me in for sure. But if everybody's not on board, then it's not legit. So, yeah, man, it's really where I sit right now."

Personally, I think a Pantera reunion would just be too weird. Pantera was Anselmo, Dimebag, Brown, and Paul, and any other lineup would just seem disingenuous. Plus, it's not like Anselmo doesn't play Pantera stuff live now anyway.

The last time Vinnie Paul commented on Anselmo, he noted that Anslemo "tarnished the image of Pantera," so don't hold your breath.
