LimeWire Is Coming Back As An NFT Marketplace

Why.

Limewire

LimeWire initially existed between 2000 and 2010 as a peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) where you could basically download a ton of pirated music. Now in 2022, the brand has been bought by Paul and Julian Zehetmayr to become an NFT sales marketplace. According to Bloomberg, the new version of LimeWire will sell "nonfungible tokens attached to music, content and artworks."

“It’s a very iconic name. Even if you look on Twitter today, there’s hundreds of people still being nostalgic about the name,” said Julian. “Everybody connects it with music and we’re launching initially a very music-focused marketplace, so the brand was really the perfect fit for that with its legacy.”

Long story short, the new LimeWire is basically LimeWire in name and nothing else at all. So who knows if the nostalgia factor will end up paying off considering none of the things that made LimeWire what it was, outside its name, are coming with this next iteration. Which is y'know – a big part of nostalgia. Being the thing that the thing originally was, right? All we know so far is that the new LimeWire will allow for purchases in both Cryptocurrency and U.S. dollars, and that "10 'really big mainstream' artists have signed on to be a part of LimeWire’s offering so far."

So yeah. We'll see what happens with LimeWire-turned-NFTWire.
