Vinyl sales cannot stop breaking records this month. The format sold 1.842 million units during the week ending in December 24, making it the most records ever sold in one week since sales began being tracked by Nielsen Music in 1991. This number beats the previous record of 1.445 million vinyl sold during the week ending in December 17, 1.253 million sold during the week of December 3, and 1.195 million sold during the week of December 10. All those dates are from 2020, so yeah – it's been pretty crazy.
Leading the charge this time around was Paul McCartney’s new album McCartney III, which sold 32,000 copies. During the previous record-setting week, the vinyl leading the charge was Folklore by Taylor Swift, which sold 23,000 copies. Vinyl breaking 1 million units in sales has only happened once before outside this month, and that was the week of December 26, 2019.
