I kind of checked out of the Woodstock drama for the last month, but it's time to check back in with this mess. With two months to go until the festival is scheduled to take place, there are all sorts of problems – namely that they've just their venue and promoter again!
Let's take a step back though. After revealing a lineup that left something to be desired, concerns grew with a promised ticket onsale date came and went with no ticketing announcement. Then, the promoters funding the festival announced the fest was canceled and they were pulling funding. Woodstock creator Michael Lang pushed back and even went to court. The court ruled that the funders were not allowed to cancel the fest but were absolutely allowed to take back their nearly $18 million in funding.
Lang persisted, promised new funding would be gotten and the show would go on. Except, now that funding has dried up as well.
TMZ reports that Watkins Glen International, the race track where the festival was to take place, has canceled Woodstock's license, meaning the festival currently has no home. The venue cited contract issues as the reason for the cancelation. Loudwire reports that after this news surfaced, CID Entertainment, who were producing the event, have also pulled out.
You would think this means that's it, it's over, but no. A rep for Woodstock told TMZ "We are in discussions with another venue to host Woodstock 50 on August 16th – 18th and look forward to sharing the new location when tickets go on sale in the coming weeks." Woodstock is scheduled for August 16th – 18th. No tickets have been put on sale yet.
Just let it die already.
