Sorry to keep anyone waiting, but this is when I like to reflect on the past year: the final day of the year. I feel like I would be doing myself and you loyal MI Junkies a disservice to thrust a "best of" on you a month before the actual end of the year… OR … This shitbird gots lazy and put it off til now. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Regardless, here is my, and what I can assume is the final, Best Of for the site… squeaking in at the 11th hour of 2010. I won't bore you with elaborate yarns about why these albums made me happy in my swimsuit area, because lets be honest, with these bands it would probably be shorter to listen to five of their songs than read about them. So, without further fanfare, I present my Top 10 Albums of 2010… In rapidfire tweet form… 140 characters or less… Just how attention spans for this shit like it.
10. Kill The Client – Set For Extinction
Airtight, but not pushing any boundaries in the grind genre… However I don't mean that in a bad way. Fuckin sick as hell, but kinda safe.
9. The Abominable Iron Sloth – The Id Will Overcome
Sludge/doom, yet crushingly dirty/groovy at times. Got more adventurous on this full length. They definitely have an Eyehategod boner.
8. Arson Anthem – Insecurity Notoriety
Anselmo, Mike Williams, Hank III… Worshipping at the altar of '80 – '86 American hardcore… Crusty, crude, punky, core-y, grindy, lovely.
7. Graf Orlock – Doombox EP
The cinemagrind madmen are back at it. New vocalist took a bit to grow on me, but totally did. This EP finds them perfecting their grindcraft.
6. Defeatist- Sixth Extinction
Altogether relentless grind-pummeling unleashed surprisingly creative and positively smothering. No coming up for air on this one. Vicious.
5. Daughters – Daughters
A yummy feedback-blended gut-slam of chaotic noise/grind spasms. A breath of fresh air in a year chock full of meh "heavy" shit… Boner.
4. Nails – Unsilent Death
VIOLENCE. DELICIOUS VIOLENCE. Raw, fucked, messy, and punishing… No envelope-pushing, just straight to the point rib-cracking 'core destruction.
3. Early Graves – Goner
Mahk will be sadly missed. Mega-promising chaotic hardcore output. Righteous precision in its whirlwind tornado of face-punching delivery.
2. The Secret- Solve Et Coagula
This splendidly itched the scratch on my Gaza boner. Cacophonous and painful, just slab after slab of hellfire and brutality. More, please.
1. The Chariot – Long Live
Really? I even need to explain this one? It's fucking brilliant, ya pricks. But if you need further reassurance, see here.
So my little Junkersons… Do yourself a favor, and go get your face torn off by something actually heavy and brutal for once. Above are ten of the best from this past year, just to get you started. Leave your pussymetal back at your weird gay uncle's house where it belongs and come over to the minute-long or less pure violence side… We've been waiting for you.
Here's to you having a chaotically brutal and unforgiving 2011!
