MUNICIPAL WASTE's TONY FORESTA Names The Seven Modern Thrash & Punk Bands You Need To Hear

Including Ekulu, Spy, Enforced, and more!

BARGE TO HELL Tour Guide with MUNICIPAL WASTE's Tony Foresta on Metal Injection

Municipal Waste vocalist Tony Foresta is someone clearly always looking for something new to listen to. We sat down with Foresta to pick his brain about what he's been discovering lately, and this is what he came up with! Municipal Waste will release Electrified Brain on July 1, and pre-orders are available here.

Spy

Currently my favorite band out their right now. My old pal Chopper turned me onto this band’s first 7” when it dropped, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Great recorded output and even more insane live. I’m excited to see what this band does in the future for sure. If you haven’t listened yet stop what you’re doing and go for it.

Quarantine

I guess you can argue if this is a hardcore record or not, but first time spinning this I got some serious Dirty Rotten vibes from the guitar and drum parts. Also, real cool musical/noise interludes that keep you hooked and entertained through the whole record.

Sanity Control

I don’t know much about these guys, but I know they are from Poland and they rip. Been jamming the “War on Life” full length a lot lately. I hope we get to catch them next time I’m overseas. Someone hook me up with an LP. I can’t find that shit anywhere.

Enforced

I’ve been lucky enough to tour with this band twice now and they just keep getting better and better.  They give me a strong Power Trip vibe not only musically but for their personality and general energy that they put into each live performance. Not only that but they’re from Richmond so that’s an extra plus. Kill Grid smokes, get it.

Dead Heat

Oxnard kings have been all over the place lately. Their audience is growing and growing and it’s very much deserved. Hard work and a killer musical output, there’s nothing I respect more in a band.  Also, they like to party, I actually had to hide from them a couple times on the road because I’m old now and frown on such shenanigans. *winks*

Intoxicated

Great crossover thrash that leans a bit more on the old school death metal side played by guys who survived the glory days.  Intoxicated has been around since 93 just now starting to hit their stride. The Walled EP is a ripper and I’ve been lucky enough to hear the upcoming album “Watch You Burn” coming out on Seeing Red Records which is going to crush a lot of heads real soon.

Ekulu

This band came out of nowhere for me and knocked my damn socks off. Check out “Unscrew my Head” for a real good time.

Condor

This isn't a really super new band or anything but I can't stop listening to this. Don't get it mixed up with the killer punk band Condor from France either. This is some evil black and fast thrash. Check out "Unstoppable Power" that came out in 2017. I almost wrecked my car head banging to it.
