Pandemic aside, which rockstar had the best year? According to the Billboard Music Awards, that artist is none other than Machine Gun Kelly. Kelly, who made his name in hip-hop, decided to make a pop-punk album last year called Tickets to My Downfall and the sound gamble paid off big.
At last night's Billboard Music Awards, he beat out AC/DC and Five Finger Death Punch for Top Rock Artist. His album also beat out AC/DC's Power Up and the latest from Bruce Springsteen and Miley Cyrus for Top Rock Album.
During his speech, he encouraged fans not to give up "I released my first mixtape 15 years ago, and this is the first big stage I've ever been invited to accept an award on. I wanna say something to the dreamers out there who are going to be tested by reality the way I was — suspend logic and invite magic. If five years or 10 years or 12 years had been too long waiting for this moment, then I wouldn't be having this moment. Show the universe that it can't take your dream from you."
