The Grammys were last night, and if you missed our late breaking report, Tenacious D won Best Metal Performance beating out actual metal bands like Mastodon, Anthrax and Slipknot for the award. Not that I'm hating on the D, more power to them. To be fair, they were very gracious in victory:
We would like to dedicate our win at @TheGRAMMYs to the great @OfficialRJDio. Proceeds from Ronnie's tribute album go to @DioCancerFund m/

Ultimately, the real winners of the night are Mastodon, specially drummer Brann Dailor, who wore the best outfit of the night, ensuring maximum publicity for his band. Here is a fantastically awkward interview the band did with Grammys.com:

Even fellow Best Metal Performance nominee Charlie Benante was impressed:

Charlie was absolutely hanging out and schmoozing…

Motorhead were also in attendance, and while I previously expressed concern for Lemmy's weight loss, he looked better here…
Finally, the only representation of anything resembling heavy metal on the main show came courtesy of AC/DC who performed a medley of their new track "Rock or Bust" and "Highway to Hell." Apparently, AC/DC requested cue cards for their complicated lyrics. Actually, we don't know if they requested them or if the Grammys just do this in general:

That concludes this year's Metal at the Grammys report. We'll see you next year for further disappointment.
