A new comic book is coming based on Ziltoid the Omniscient: the coffee-guzzling, guitar wielding, intergalactic horror that is the brainchild of the one and only Devin Townsend. Through the years, Townsend has brought Ziltoid to the stage, featured him in videos, and now this new leap onto the front cover sees the concept infiltrating new mediums, much as Townsend intended when he first introduced the character 16 years ago.
In a story description, it appears that we'll learn more about Ziltoid and his origins, as meanwhile, our anti-hero is "tasked with keeping the coffee flowing for the Ziltoidians, otherwise space-time will collapse." At 30-plus pages, the first issue of Ziltoid the Omniscient is promising plenty of out of this world fantasy and brilliant design.
The book will be published on April 12, with subsequent issues to follow shortly after. The book is being published by Opus, and is currently available to purchase here. It was written by Lars Kenseth and edited by Denton Tipton, and also features art by Andy Kuhn and color work by David Garcia Cruz. The lettering was done by Jacob Bascle. The first run of this edition will be limited to a mere 2,217 copies, and each copy will be individually numbered, and well as a special limited-edition foil treatment. The book will retail for $19.99, which is honestly a good deal given the soaring prices of comics and graphic novels.
Townsend launched the Ziltoid website and the first episode of the Ziltoid TV series in 2014. Recently, the original screen tests for the show were released, and you can check those out here. In 2018, Townsend announced an EP of music as well as a video game based on the character.
