Dave Mustaine Says MEGADETH's Grammy Should've Been Given To Him, Not The Band

Megadeth won its first Grammy this year in the Best Metal Performance category after having been nominated for the award 12 times in its career, though not just in that category. While that's something to be extremely proud of, frontman Dave Mustaine said in an interview with The Columbus Dispatch that he feels like he should've been given the award, and not the band.

As crazy as I am, I was thinking about the Grammy the other day and [how] it was given to Megadeth. I was thinking it would surely be a lot better if it was given to Dave Mustaine and not to Megadeth. I guess you’ve got to keep the fire burning.

To Dave's credit, he did write the song "Dystopia" that won the award, but at the same time the award is defined as one that is meant to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position."

So whether Dave wrote the song or not, the rest of the band still played on the track, and probably deserves a good portion of recognition as well, right? Oh, and Dave's mad about not being in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame, too!

I'm basically in there with the Metallica thing; that was basically just a diss those guys pulled. But it would nice to be in there on my own two feet. I'm sure at some point it will happen. You can't create a whole frickin' music style and not be recognized for it.

So yeah. Seems like Dave wants to be recognized at this point, which is completely and totally fair, but why throw the rest of the band under the bus in the process?
