Following up The Antidote For The Glass Pill wasn't going to be an easy task for Lychgate. The band captivated its audience with a mass-like album rife with church organ and chaotically atmospheric black metal, but this time around Lychgate seems to be doing less grandiose and more funeral mass. Lychgate's new song "Remembrance" is the closer for their new album The Contagion In Nine Steps, and the band tells Decibel that the track "brings the album to a close in a nostalgic, reflective and funereal manner." What I really love about this track is that it starts of deceptively happy and keeps spiraling ever-slowly downward toward a very depressing and lingering end.
They add it's the only track on the album to be slow throughout and feature only clean vocals, though part of me wants a whole Lychgate album solely of material like this now. The Contagion In Nine Steps is out March 30 and you can pre-order it here.
