I admit it. I'm getting a little old. I keep my hair short, the volume down and I've secretly started listening to music where people sing. I especially don't go to fests anymore. Why? I don't like standing in one place for 8 hours. Wears on the knees. But come May 26, I'm gonna dust off my camo-shorts, let my hair down and descend once again into that sweet smelling pit of sweaty triceps. I've just won the Superbowl, and I'm going to the Maryland Deathfest!
In order to convince myself to get the hell off the couch, I made this list of reasons why I absolutely must attend this event:
- Because Inquisition are headlining Saturday night.
- Because Skinless are going to play their last show ever, at least until death metal goes out of style and back underground for 10 years before experiencing another reunion boom wherein Skinless reunite with Sherwood Webber on vocals backed by a bunch of 15 year olds.
- Because MDF is one of the few remaining summer metal events that isn't opened by a dozen one-album-deathcore-wonders.
- Because it's rumored that Ghost's set will actually be a cage match with King Diamond.
- Because how refreshing is it to be at a fest that isn't sponsored by an energy drink or a car manufacturer?
- Because the headliners are actually older than the openers.
- Because I have an over/under bet going with a friend to see how many people show up to Nunslaughter just to get street cred.
- Because when everyone smells terrible, no one does.
- Because Medieval Times is closed that weekend.
- Because the cloud of pot smoke over the Neurosis set will be visible from space.
Tickets are still available for MDF and can be purchased right here
