Last month was crazy for AC/DC. Initially, there were rumors that the band might be breaking up, but those proved false. What was true was that main songwriter Malcolm Young was sick and would not be participating in writing sessions for their next album.
The band have been working on new material for the last month and now, frontman Brian Johnson is suggesting that they may head out on the road by the end of the year. He mentioned it in passing on his racing website when discussing future episodes of his Cars That Rock series:
"Cars That Rock was my first ever go at presenting a TV series – and even though it may not show, i was real nervous. So am very relieved that you all seem to be enjoying it.
"We hope to bring you more shows in the near future but, of course, there is the slight distraction of my day job with AC/DC – and it looks very likely that we will be on the road again before the end of the year.
"So stand by for more music – and more Cars That Rock."
Speaking strictly from a marketing perspective, it wouldn't make sense for AC/DC to tour without having a product to promote, so it would be safe to assume that they are planning on completing the record before hitting the road. That way, instead of a giant marketing push for the tour and then another push a few months later for a new album, they can just combine both for a massive marketing push. It's just business 101.
