After ticketing agent Ticketmaster got a slew of negative publicity about quietly changing their refund policy to no longer offer refunds on most postponed shows, fans were very pissed. It looks like concert promoters are getting the message, and are trying to cover for the agency, as a new report from The New York Times states AEG and Live Nation both have plans to offer refunds.
AEG will be the first to publicly respond. The Times got access to an internal memo which stated that AEG will offer refunds to all of the shows they are promoting that have been postponed. But you will only have 30 days to request a refund.
On May 1st, fans will have 30 days to request a refund for shows that have already postponed. If a tour has not yet officially been postponed, AEG will offer a full refund for the 30 days after a tour has officially been announced as postponed.
The Times reached out to AEG's primary competitor, Live Nation Entertainment (whose parent company also owns Ticketmaster) to see their refund policy. While Live Nation was not as clear, they offered this statement: “Live Nation’s plan is to continue offering an opportunity for refunds on all of its rescheduled shows as new dates are set. We anticipate those windows will begin to open up on an event by event basis in the next few weeks.”
