Alkaline Trio is at least semi-tangentially connected to metal, with the one tie being Ulver's Kristoffer Rygg doing keyboards on a track from Trio's 2005 album Agony & Irony. Apparently the band's love of metal runs deeper than that, or at least drummer Derek Grant's love does.
According to Black Anvil vocalist and bassist Paul Delaney in an interview with CLRVYNT, Grant has kicked up a Nifelheim-ish band that Delaney will be participating in. For those unaware, Nifelheim is a blackened thrash from Sweden who began its career in 1990.
The drummer from Alkaline Trio is starting a very Nifelheim-y band, and I’m doing some vocals on it. He mentioned me playing bass, so I might do that, which is cool. He’s a maniac metalhead.
Grant has formerly played in The Suicide Machines and Walls Of Jericho, and even his stuff in Alkaline Trio is nothing to scoff at. So it'll be really interesting to hear what this sounds like! Plus, who knows who else will be involved?
