BODY COUNT's Ice-T on "Cop Killer": "I Was a Little More Radical Back Then"

"You got to remember, 30-years-ago Ice is different than 62-year-old Ice."

Body Count drew quite the backlash in 1992 with their track "Cop Killer." A recent report found the song is still absent from all streaming services, and wondered why. Body Count have continued to play the song live. So how does vocalist Ice-T feel about the track 28 years later? He tells the Washington Post he was a little more radical about then and the song doesn't reflect how he feels today.

"It was a song about somebody who, during a moment like this, got so mad that they went after the cops. We don't want that guy. But a lot of times you warn people by saying this can happen. I never killed no cop. I've written better songs that are more on point with what I believe today. I was a little more radical back then. 'No Lives Matter' addresses my feelings at this moment. You got to remember, 30-years-ago Ice is different than 62-year-old Ice."

When asked who "62-year-old-Ice" is, he responded with a pretty great answer.

"My correct guidance right now is know your allies and let's continue to go forward. Don't let up. Let's go after Breonna Taylor's killers. Let's get it done."

Of course it should be noted that Ice-T has been portraying a cop named Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for over twenty years.

For those unfamiliar, Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own apartment on March 13 by Louisville police officers. Read her full story here.
