Sodom frontman and bassist Tom "Angelripper" Such was backed up by guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost since 1996 and drummer Markus Freiwald since 2010, though both were fired via text message earlier this month. Angelripper wasted no time in getting together a new lineup, which features guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik, who played in Kreator and was a Sodom member from 1987 to 1989, Asphyx drummer Stefan "Husky" Hüskens, and Beyondition guitarist Yorck Segatz.
Such says replacing Kost with two guitarists "allow us much more possibilities live, so we will be able to play tracks in future that we weren’t able to perform as a trio," and promises new material in 2018 and a new album in spring 2019.
"We’ll start writing new material as soon as possible and plan to release a single with at least two brand-new numbers and a bonus track to give our fans a taste of our upcoming album. The direction of the new material already stands: ready for action and full of adrenaline, Sodom are set to celebrate the glorious days of the 1980s old school thrash that we all grew up with and that the band has always been celebrated for."
Old school is best school, right?
