Earlier this morning we reported on the death of Soundgarden vocalist, Chris Cornell, who was only 52 years old. As we continue to mourn the loss of Cornell, we’re learning more about the scene, and circumstances surrounding his death.
Police have reported that Cornell’s wife called a family friend to check on his well-being following Soundgarden’s concert in Detroit on Wednesday night. He was reported to be found unresponsive on the bathroom floor, and pronounced dead on the scene. An early statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
Now it is being reported that police are now investigating Cornell’s death as a possible suicide. Police spokesman Michael Woody tells The Associated Press that he can’t provide details on what led investigators to make that determination, but noted there were “basic things observed at the scene.”
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office will make an official determination concerning the cause of death.
This news comes as a complete shock to fans and friends of Cornell from around the world. This is truly heartbreaking, but we’ll keep you posted as the story develops.
