DARK TRANQUILLITY Founding Guitarist Quits After Losing Passion For Music

26 years was a damn good run though.

26 years was a damn good run though.

For being a band as long as Dark Tranquillity has, its lineup has been fairly consistent, though its bass position appears to be cursed. Michael Nicklasson played bass for the group from 1999 to 2008, who was then replaced by Daniel Antonsson from 2008 to 2013, who was then replaced by original bassist (1991 to 1999) and current guitarist Martin Henriksson from 2013 to, unfortunately, 2015.

Yes – founding guitarist Henriksson appears to have quit the band in late 2015 due to losing his passion for music, according to a statement from the group.

While putting the finishing touches on the material for our next album, we have to inform you that guitarist and original member Martin Henriksson sadly but amicably left the band a couple of months ago. Here is his statement:

Dear Dark Tranquillity fans,

I recently quit the band. I feel I have lost the passion for playing music, and Dark Tranquillity deserves to have members that are 100% committed to the art. Therefore I decided it’s in everyone’s best interest to step aside and leave the band with the best possible ability to grow and get even stronger. I’ve had 26 years filled with wonderful memories and we made a lot of great music together, and for that I’m forever grateful. Thanks to all the fans, crew and other people involved that supported Dark Tranquillity through the years!

Yours,
Martin Henriksson

Better to quit if you're not feeling it than force yourself to do something you're not into, so best of luck to Henriksson with whatever he chooses to pursue in life! No word on if Henriksson contributed to the new album at all, or sat it out from the get go.
